Local artist Carol Hahn presented a new installation of her assembled found objects in the MCAC’s Armstrong Gallery. Her exhibition, Human / Nature, opened on Friday, January 14 and continueed through February 26, 2011.
Hahn intuitively assembles and connects fragile and fragmented found objects, turning what seems precarious and insignificant into moments of beauty. She collects curious things – bits of nature, abandoned objects, detritus from the consuming world – that she finds on the ground, in the trash, and within her garden. These bits and pieces surround her in piles on her desk, in boxes in her closet, and in disarray in her studio. She lives with these humble and familiar materials and eventually their presence suggests a sculptural combination – a joining that creates something new. As they pass through Hahn’s hands, these tactile objects are playfully melded and transformed into sculptures that engagingly turn the seemingly mundane into something magically poetic.
Carol Hahn lives in Normal, Illinois. She received her B.S. from Washington University in St. Louis, and her M.F.A. from Rutgers University. Hahn teaches at Heartland Community College.
