Information about the Festival
BOOTH SPACE: Booths will be set up on the street in Uptown Normal, Illinois. Most spaces are approximately 10 ft. wide by 10 ft. deep. The majority of booth spaces are EXACTLY ten feet wide. Please plan accordingly. As this is a new set-up for us, we are still learning how this will work in the re-configured streets. All set up items (tents, chairs, tables, display boards, etc.) are the responsibility of the artist. Special needs will be considered for space assignments. Electricity is not provided. Gas generators are not permitted.
HOURS: Saturday 10 am—5 pm, Sunday 11 am—4 pm. The exhibiting artist is expected to be present both days.
SET UP: Check-in time is 5:30 am - 9 am Saturday morning. YOU MUST CHECK IN BEFORE SETTING UP. Artists on North Street and the Roundabout will check-in at the North Street location. Artists on Beaufort Street will check in on the west end of Beaufort at the corner of Linden Street. All booth areas are marked and numbered. Vehicles must be unloaded and out of the area by 9 am. As much as we announce the start time as 10am, some buyers will be in after nine.
HOSPITALITY: Coffee and doughnuts are available to artists on Saturday morning. We will have a table set up near the check-in location. If it is raining we will move this yo the area underneath the marquee of the Normal Theater. An artists’ party is planned for Saturday night, complete with food and beverages. Prizes are awarded at this event. Booth-sitters will be available and cold water will be delivered to booths throughout the day.
AWARDS: Monetary awards and ribbons are given upon judging by two qualified, paid art professional. Best in Show: $500; Fine Arts: First Place $300, Second Place $200; Fine Craft: First Place $300, Second Place: $200. These prizes are awarded at the Artist's Party on Saturday night. This party begins at 6:00 pm and prizes are awarded shortly after the start. This is at Medici, an Italian Restaurant on North St., in the second floor dining room. It is a party, with food and beverages, but not really dinner.
ASSESSMENT: A committee of practicing artists, art teachers, and/or MCAC staff will view each booth and visit with artists to ensure cooperation with stated policies and satisfaction of all participants. The committee reserves the right to reject or remove from the Sugar Creek Arts Festival any work it considers unsuitable, or any artist found to be in violation of the policies and rules herein described. Any exhibitor violating the rules of the Sugar Creek Arts Festival will become ineligible for re-admission to future festivals.
SECURITY: Artists are responsible for their own equipment and artwork. MCAC, and the Sugar Creek Arts Festival and its sponsors assume NO responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen items. Police do patrol the Festival site and we have had very few difficulties in the past.
